Maintain Pool Water Level

A pools water level is constantly changing and it's crucial to keep it at the right level because problems may arise if it gets too low or too high. Pools naturally lose small amounts of water each day because of evaporation, splashing and swimmers getting out of the pool. If it rains for an extended period of time, water levels may rise too high.

Why is it important to monitor a pools water level? Because skimmers stop working if the water level isn't just right. Maintaining a pools water level is a daily task that can't be overlooked. The level at which pool skimmers function properly is between one third and about half way up the opening of the pool skimmer. If the water level is too high the debris floating next to the opening may pass by without being pulled into the skimmer.

However if the water level is too low it may cause the skimmer to suck air into the system. If this happens you may run the risk of burning up your pool pumps motor. Keeping an eye on the water level daily is the only way to avoid improper water amounts. One tip to keep in mind when backwashing is to add water prior to starting. Backwashing removes water from the pool and you don't want it to get too low.
